NEW Duotone foil assist - waist mount

Have people seen this?

Looks really interesting. I know people have gone for waist versions of the foil drive before as a DIY version but Duotone look to be going 100% on this route.

ESC in the mast base?

Good spot. Yes. Looks like it.

The remote really is a big step forward. It looks like it leaves both your hands free to paddle and get up whilst engaging the motor.

Funny enough, despite being announced for a wee while, it stayed under my radar.
@mterea, nah, it wouldn’t make any sense to have the ESC not in the pack. Battery to ESC needs to be short, whereas ESC to motor can be longer. Plus, there’s room in the pack, none anywhere else.
The batteries are marked as LiPo, Lithium Polymer, which gives advantages over Li-Ion in terms of power density. Lots of juice in a light compact form factor. On the other hand, they are more limited in terms of cycles, and they need extra care during charging, storage and handling to prevent blowup.
These are the batteries that you find typically in the RC / drones,
something like that:

Having those strapped on the waist would have required a fair amount of effort in terms of quality control to make sure there is near-zero risk.

I was ready to take a hit in terms of power density for backpack option with bombproof A123 LiFePo4 cells, with about 2kg for 5Ah at 38V, whereas this is more like 1.5kg for 7Ah at 44V. There’s a hefty price for peace of mind…
