Start of a new Gun Case Build (Input needed!)

I have been looking at the Gong Masts, Wings and Stabs, I assume its “best” to use the V2 mast with all the parts, but which wings are the best for E-foiling purposes,

I looked at : Foil Stab X-Over V2 44CM version and Foil Front Wing Curve V2 Large, assuming these are the “thing” to get but I have 0 clue, so if anyone here has a Gong setup I would love the input what is the good setups for Efoiling, while I dig the forums to figure out what I should run.

“Best” is hard to answer. When you search this forum you will find a lot of opinions on that.:grinning:

I would suggest that it would be best at the beginning to have a front foil and stab from the same model line that are designed to work together. Also the 85cm mast is useful in Efoil as it provides more flying height range.

Gong is an excellent choice as they have a huge array of choices, perhaps this will help understand their design logic. Click on the see more

As a beginner i’d choose a x-over set, i started on an old gong xxl wing that was like riding a truck, too slow to turn and adjust balance on. Wings can be too big but starting on a x-over M or L is giving you an easy start.

The wing i’ve ridden most is a gong curve LT, it’s great and they have since updated it to a different shape - it’s now in the ”advanced” wing line. Upgrading to something like that is (kind of) cheap if you later grow out of the x-over wing.

So I was reading one of the Gong Wing and Stab discussions, I believe you were a part of it too where consensus as I understood it people preffered Curve Wing L → XL and was a few more “advanced” riders that wanted the Fluid version of the Wing in L and that the Veloce Stab had good “flow”.

I am working with only second hand information but my reasoning as people described fluid setup less stable I was thinking a Curve V2 Wing in Large or XL and a Veloce V2 44cm Stab could be a good / stable setup, with your saying I should stick to a Large wing maximum as XL is probably too big, note I am trying to figure this all out so correct me if I am wrong.

Will look into this more!

Video mainly about Veloce foil.

It all depends on your skillset. I took a long time learning to foil but was recovering from a back injury so my physical status wasn’t the best… With the experience I have now I wouldn’t get my first xxl wing - but i also think that the curve V2 might be more for the progression than for the first rides if you’ve never foiled before. Foiling is not like other board riding so to choose a beginner setup is probably making the progression faster. Believe me, it won’t be the last wing you get anyway🙂

(…meanwhile quietly designing a wing rack to keep the heap of wings hidden from my partner  )

I have driven gong starting from their First Release. Back in the days there was nothing to Chose which Made purchase quite easy. Nowadays I would recommend a Curve Wing, not bigger than L. For stab the smallest curve available. I have many people w/o experience trying out my efoil, and they still manage to control it (more or less). Its V1 mast, so quite wobbly. With V2 mast and curve wing you have a very stable yet agile setup. But ask 10 people, get 10 answers

Yeah its a reoccuring issue I feel, but Alright lets lock in Gong Curve L and smallest stabiliser the smallest one of the curve is 36 cm which is very small, is it big enough.

I have Curve M or L and veloce 39cm Stab as Combo.

Its working dont worry.

Total amount : 2,514€

So my current goal right now is find some these wings and other parts second hand to make some savings where I can make them, also considering hyperdrive prop but aluminium prop does sound nice.

Just a heads up already, with 20S you need to think of a way to limit the peak currents when connecting the battery to the ESC.
Available Antispark connectors won’t work, I tried them, they just give up the first time you connect them
My solution is to connect GND, then connect positive via a 10 Ohm resistor for a few seconds, then connect the actual plus connector.

I might run an Anti spark switch like previous PEV builds I have run, haven’t decided around that fully yet.

Which one do you use? Did not have luck finding one that works well with 20S

I have used a Maytechs 300A Anti spark for several builds mostly 16-18s however, it says it works all the way up to 20S as long as you dont have regen on it, which shouldn’t be an issue, but I have some lower Amp AS lying around from Flipsky that are also rated at 20S

Ye, it is essentially a MOSFET with rump up opening.
Why manually connect resistor

Fun too see this community has trolls too, something never changes in PEV communities, lets be better than this .

There will always be some, a percentage of every population but I think it’s bad form to share PMs. Don’t know about here but on other sites it’s against rules.

It’s hardly a private message more than some wierdo attacking me and trying to hide it, I’d rather point out the rotten apples so maybe mods can deal with them, I have been told I am not the first person he started insulting in PMs so maybe it’s for the better.

I doubt there will be any repercussions. It’s better to keep the threads focused on the building/tech side, more fun and interesting - and less troll-attracting.
