Depends on your setup. For a boogie with Differential steering, I took my fins off because they increased the radius of the turning circle by a large amount. I use Bremote V2 which has calibration options for tuning the power to each motor, fixing any tendency to drift in one direction.
How do you deal with the board yawing from side to side at high speeds?
I considered installing two fina as well but ended up putting only one in in the aft, center.
I also noticed you have no trim tabs, I assume you have no issues with the nose going up?
I may have got super lucky with my weight distribution as I didnāt have to tune it much and I donāt have an issue with yaw. I donāt use trim tabs. Here is a video of me testing in flat water with small chop and then going into smoother water. This video is over a year old using a Bremote V1 but I still use the same setup with Bremote V2 & 3 blade props. You ended up using a soft top surfboard it seems like, perhaps thatās why itās a little more stable? Mine is a 44 inch boogie board and it just wants to take off at times haha. I actually considered using the same setup with you but couldnāt find any soft tops around at a good price, they are surprisingly expensive nowadays!

My setup is ok in chop, but I usually prefer to not surf in choppy conditions. Iāve been out plenty of times with Zerotow Boogies and chop performance was similar until @Strongarm added trim tabs which improved the commercial product, plus they have self righting ability which is a massive advantage in waves and something I havenāt been able to crack yet with so much weight up high on my boogie. Iām very cautious about keeping my boogie out of any impact zone during surf sessions. I also have to be careful not to tip it by riding out too wide, and have learnt to use steering to counter the side forces that cause it to tip. So itās not perfect but it works and it makes me happy to ride the waves way way out the back ![]()
I donāt want my words to be taken negatively, but I see the porpoise is present. I also notice roll when you enter a turn under power and a drop in speed when you turn with the trigger released. Again, I say this without any negativity and am glad that none of this is interfering with your enjoyment of the ride.
Yep it could be improved but it does what I want from it and has been surprisingly reliable. Iām not sure what my next step would be for making improvements, does this look like it would benefit from trim tabs? At some stage Iām keen on one of those Mini IRB but time is in quite short supply at my current stage of life.
I wouldnāt give any definitive advice. If youāre happy with everything, thereās no point in changing anything. Trimmers also have their drawbacks. They drain the battery slightly. If youāre riding fast and suddenly release the trigger, the nose of the board may drop, and if you donāt let it level out and then press the throttle again, the board will start to dive. But if you want your board to fly like an arrow or take turns at full speed, then thereās no alternative to trimmers. I think Iāll give you one piece of advice, though. You can print out trimmers and install them with double-sided tape to see if theyāre necessary.

What a night and day difference, simply wow!!
The boogie is stable, I get very little ventilation in comparison to what I used to get. Prior to using the tabs, I had to drop the throttle immediately after getting on the foil - slack line would prompt boogie to gain speed and lift the nose way up, exposing one side and grabbing air. If not corrected, it would capsize, which was very annoying.
I had to learn to deal with it but after installing the tabs Iām happy to report that not only it is way more stable at high speed with no rider load, I was also able to drop one gear down. Crazy.
The only downside is that the boogie I have, has channels in the aft and I had to use a double sided tape + a regular tape to cover up the gaps in between the tabs and the bottom. I suppose next step would be to tweak the tabs to match the curvature of the channels.
Either way, itās great, I had a blast of a session.
Now, is there a way to check whether the props are spinning at the same speed? I have a dual vesc and noticed that at high speed only the left prop seems to ventilate a little, loaded.
Not sure what is causing it but my theory is that one of the motors spins a little faster than the other.
In fact, in first gear with bremote v2 when I slightly pull the trigger, right prop starts to spin while left prop is chilling. At full throttle I can hear a different pitch as well.
Both motors have the same values in vesc tool and bremote has been calibrated on both sides of the vesc.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Totally. Fixing it would be a game changer.
I had one motor stating slightly before the other at low throttle. I solved this by altering the PWM start point on one of the ESCās. Iām away right now so cannot remember exactly how I did it but it was one of the configuration options in the rx.
You can monitor ERPM in vesc tool.
If your wiring allows it, I would also switch connectors, to see where the actual change happens. RX port, ESC port or motor.

I really like using my dual motors tow, it works great on calm water in the morning or the evening, once chop rises with the wind it becomes very turbulent.
But I used it 3 times in a row, and now my shoulder is really painfull ! Do you get that too ? Starting prone with overextended arm, then riding with one arm on the handle, it feels very taxing on it.
Back to the efoil feels very peacefull in comparison
I had this and then bought the Zerotow tow rope and my problem went away. The Zerotow rope stretches and takes away some of strain that was happening on my shoulder.
Oh nice ! I will look for something a bit stretchier. Maybe just a longer rope will be better, as a very short term measure

have a look at the armstrong tow rope, its got good float and has some stretch, for the arm soreness yes i get that for my first 10 sessions and also caused by the way i ride.
what is the sort of run time expected from a tow boogie with 50amp/h battery ?
i get from 45mins to 1 hour 15mins depending on the foil.
i know the zerotow boogie gets more than that, so i am wondering if there is anything wrong in my setup
