Great builds, thanks for sharing all your findings. I just got my foil up and running, and am starting to get the kinks worked out enough to think about optimizing. I see your consumption is quite low compared to what I’m seeing with mine. I’m guessing you’ve put quite a bit of thought and testing to get to where you’re at now. Any idea which are most important for achieving good efficiency… foil, power system, prop, weight, etc? Thanks!
Foil and weight.
The RL Foil (got the “old” one, it is amazing in terms of consumption). My weight of board&rider is 95kg. My son with only 23kg can foil with 350-450W at 22 kmh (-:
Motor and Prop.
Maybe a FR Motor can deliver more Power over all, runs smoother, is waterproof and so on. But: compared with FR, Flipsky 65150, 80100, the 63100 is amazing in termes of consumption. Some people say, a 6384 is even more efficiant.
I put a lot of time and energy into improving my propellers. The Prop is very important. 2mm bigger or smaller, 10mm Pitch more ore less makes “huge” difference.
My expierence: If the Prop is 2mm off, or Pitch is 10mm off the sweet spot, consumption raises about 10-15%. And the waste of Energy stacks.
That means: a Prop 3mm off optimal Diameter and maybe 15mm off Pitch can have already about 50% more consumption.
Turning down a Yamaha or Solas Prop is like gambling. You may have luck. Or not.

if my gear box die i would test the flipsky 65161 100 120 kv from banggood it s only 300 $ and with your nice props it s good
I could get my 39kmh Topspeed with only 120A Motor current instead of 150A with the 158mm Prop. In guess, this one is even better.
44V, 72% dutycycle, 120A Motorcurrent.
That would equal 33V 95% dutycycle.
I guess i’ll go for 10s. Even with almost emty Liion (3,3V) i could get Topspeed.
No need for higher Voltage with this high kv (140) Motor

Starting with such a small board is even possible with 110A motorcurrent with the 63100, but it is a pain in the ass https://metr.at/r/6CSRv and takes very long to get speed
Starting with 120A is no problem.
Sick of the Flipsky crap, i will change my Vesc to a real Vesc6 MK4.
What do you blame the Flipsky FSESC200 for ?
Vesc6 MK4 looks optimised for your setup 60V spike, 80A continuous and 120A burst.
Well, i blame flipsky for poor quality and bad customer support. So many people having trouble with 65150 and Vesc (without lid, shiped broken, leaking lid and so on). If they work, they are ok, but…
I really like the pros of a vesc in my board and also,
I am also ashamed of using a crappy china-clone, instead of supporting Vedder and @Trampa for his genius work and effort he puts in development.
Further i hope, original Vesc performs even better.
My gut feeling tells me that a motor with original vesc runs quieter than with a china copy. Maybe even more efficient. I will see.
Could this be possible? Because my 65151 motor runs silent compared to other 65151 users. I’m using the MK4 Vesc the others the Flipsky Vesc.
Maybe you’re the only one using a genuine FOC mode on a sensorless 65151 ?
A back to back comparison of a VESC6 MK4 with a Flipsky FSESC200A on the same drive train, I’m looking forward to seeing that
With Vesc six, the motor runs quieter, and seems like even more efficiant. The Logs are much “cleaner”.
Due to bad cooling, and 77°C temp cutoff, 120A cant be delivered forever.
Over all, i am happy with my choice.
Seems like 100A is the limit at the moment with a bad cooling.
Gota improve the watercooling, this one was made of junk from my shop.
