VX3 repair/ maintenance - helpful info

I completely dried a display that had water across the screen. Picture of the drying machine further up the posts. Not a trace of water and now fully epoxied. Worked great.
That image is not water in the screen, it’s epoxy. Whole display module is filled with epoxy, the image shows the epoxy not properly wetting out but it’s fully sealed all around. I’m confident no water will ever get in. Yep we have experience every single display eventually failing as well, so disappointing. Hopefully this simple epoxy fill fixes them.

After replacing the LED, the remote control started working. Before that, there was a black screen!

I gave the remote control to my friend for repair. He is an electronics engineer and he has the equipment. He disassembled the screen with a stationery knife, but very carefully. And I soldered the LEDs with a hair dryer.

I lost the remote. The little hook probably snapped, as evidenced by the intact rope I was left with.
I have to find an attachment solution and floatation solution.

Switched to the “brighter” version today and didn’t find iit any easier to see while foiling. Bright sunshine so I was wearing sunglasses (but I almost always do) and didn’t find any different.

Much brighter in the shade though.

Yes that little string running through the plastic clip doesn’t inspire confidence. I put the clip in the other section of it attached to the yellow float - wrist band and gave it a sharp tug

Pulled the string right out of the clip. Just a small knot holding it in.

VX3 Pro signal lost latency demonstration

VX3 pro strange on screen info suddenly added to the screen with the same setup.
(Esc setup in settings as - others)
Looks like some vesc data, though my setup is esc.
Everything works, but there is that extra “telemetry”

When I run my VX3 through UART that what I normally see. Do you normally not see temp and power with your esc setup? (Also your esc looks a bit hot if that’s real haha)

I use simple 12200 esc. Of course I don’t have any telemetry aside voltage.
And suddenly showed up that corrupted telemetry that I don’t need here…

You use uart with vesc probably, right?

Yes, with a vesc all that data just comes right over (when you plug in the uart cable to the vesc). But honestly hard to see it all on the vx3. Temperature of esc can be good to have just to know it isn’t too hot. Power/current are not that interesting and I prefer to check the log afterwards

I’ve seen that before with a vx3 when I had water in the control box, moments later I lost all coms and I was swimming home. Check to make sure it’s all dry in there.

I think what happens is that the tx or rx in the uart goes high and then things go haywire.

With UART mode I also get this basically all the fields work but in PPM mode you only get the speed, mileage and battery. I like to have all the data I can, because why not so I use UART. The power indication is really useful it shows you how efficient you are if you want to maximize your battery and you are far away that’s useful.

Agree, I love the power measurement to the remote. The whole time I’m doing maths to see how far I could go at the current speed based on the capacity of the battery.

The receiver pcb was pressed with a tape, as soon as I released it, the abnormal telemetry disappeared…

I have this same ESC, I wondered how to configure it for telemetry as it seems like it should provide temperature, revs, amps etc from this video.

Could I connect the telemetry to the RX? Not clear, but seems like ESC is able to send

Nop. Different protocol. Though I assume this is possible by passing it through esp32
