Why didn’t you want to use linear actuators instead of a servo? They are available in waterproof versions.
I wanted to have a self centering fonction and control by ppm instead of needing a speed controller for forward/reverse 12v.
I did not find such linear motor with servo input and integrated controller.
Now the unit will be fully contained, with no other attachements on the boat than the bracket itself.
The angle can reach around 50-55° on each side.
Ordered a flite three blade propeller for 54€ shipped
hope it fits the motor
You have to drill/ream the bore from diameter 11 to 12mm but that is not a difficult process.
Was it there, 36€ incl tax + shipping … ?
Seems familiar
Now half way thru the print of the engine cowl, did not have the motivation to shape the foam yet, will see how the 24h print turns out.
Getting there!!
Probably going for a sb50 connector, I have some on hand and ok track record with >150A peaks.
Missing the epoxy to do the battery potting (will get it tomorrow)
Prop will be here saturday.
Need some of this to look the part and less attention grabing :
Monday is off
There is a phone number under the URL on your screenshot
Got a tracking number, so all seems fine
It’s a 6hp
Potting of the battery went ok, but not great.
Used a full 3kg of resin hope the battery last a few months.
Messed up the battery connector placement
Anyway, ready for first test tomorrow ! With the DS600 in a kite bladder.
Works, now try to foil behind it and do some tuning.
Need to fully disable brake, and maybe increase battery current as I dont get in on plane with 1 adult+ 16kg child
Also a test for the system waterproofing
Put a coat and hat on one of these, otherwise definitely going to attract attention
Come to think of it, rules probably say that you need two people in the boat when towing, one that raises a flag when the rider falls!
Congrats on another awesome build!
Is this fully down trim as that angle would pitch bow up and effect planing ability?
@okp suggested this
The first test went mostly ok, with few techical issues:
Remote bag was not fully waterproof (not damage)
Bms overcurrent was triggered twice with auto reset
Reverse has to be disabled, it chewed the rope and damaged the flite prop. Very dangerous.
The auto hold speed of the ds-600 is also quite dangerous, It is easy to activate by mistake.
Power was not quite enough for the small foil. I increased the motor amps to 260A.
I had two versions of the tow rope, with the first too far back and impossible to steer. Second one was attached further forward and the boat can be steered quite well.
There is some technique to developp, for prône to standing transition… Definitely a learning curve.
Now you need to design wavemaker so you can foil the wake instead of with the rope
Yes, not sure I can get enough power to create a surfable wake. Even with the 6hp and loaded boat I have been unable to surf the wake so far… But it is a good dream
Here is the most wake I could make
Last pic is on a 6m with 115hp
Guys surf a jetski hull loaded with 2 people. Maybe thats the next option? Get an old jetski hull, use 2 motors and put a fatsac in it for weight.
Having a good time, few things made a good difference :
260 phase amps gets on plane with me on board, 21.5 kph max recorded speed but bms cutout at 60A/30 seconds is hit every time I ride the boat full speed. Around 80A max on the bms app, less than with 200A phase amps yesterday where it would draw 100A battery (lack of torque?)
Small 12v blowing on the vesc exentends a lot the time before it overheats the alu plate it’s bolted on.
New tow point works, maybe better with a pulley on the rope.
No reverse is much safer
Remote in kite bladder will be workable until bremote v2 is available.
Gopro 8 on the motor gives good and stable pictures
Tow start is still not fully mastered
Battery was 3.9v per cell (bms saying 75% remaining) from 4.1v charged after this run
Max speed on tow close to 24km/h
Our Elon Musk. Still moving forward, but when Aliexpress runs out of suitable ESCs, he will start moving up.
