Ive got the VX5 too. Used it twice now. Amazing remote if you ask me. Did give some feedback to flipsky regarding cruise control, logging, brake animation and the data overview in general which could use some adjustments, as i dont need to see data such as motor temp (usually unavailable), or wh charge (as we dont regenerate).
Overall very nice remote. Triggers feels really smooth, and hapy that it just floats and that they have chosen to go IP68, where the inside is just dry instead of potting electronics.
Havent used it in the water yet. All my rigs have been in a redesign phase. Used it on some basic testing and really like it. Just want more VX5 receivers so I can use it on all rigs.
Just got the VX5, 5 rides and going well. Great to finally have e-foil gears like the Flite boards for better control and having the battery voltage ever present means Im no longer swimming back to shore. Couldnt find how to turn on recording but thanks for advice on the double tap on the power button. This is missing from the instructions.
Ride logs and data are going to be great for development of version 2 of my board!
I havn’t used Cruise setting yet but quick question, does it cancel if you fall off and release trigger?
The driving record on/off is in the manual as
shown in my highlighted screenshot above.
I don’t use cruise control so don’t know the answer to your question - however you can’t have it enabled AND use the gear function. So if you want gears ON Cruise has to be OFF and vice versa - again in the screenshot above.
Just tried to connect my Insta360 camera to the VX5 and discovered that the “nut” in the end of the remote is M6 where the camera is 1/4 so I will need to get an adapter.
Weather hasn’t been conducive for me to get out and try this perspective but I did a test in my yard of how it felt in the hand.
Camera on end of remote isn’t much different.
Camera on end of contracted selfy stick wasn’t bad but notice the weight.
Camera on end of selfie stick fully extended felt sort of awkward and heavy. I can see the ability to get views under the board at water level but can already do that with the non throttle hand so not sure of value but it’s fun to be able experiment with the setup.
EDIT
Tried camera on end of remote and have decided I don’t like the feel of the extra weight on my throttle hand. Functional but distracting from my riding. I had to slightly alter my normal grip on the remote so not something I will likely repeat.
The default throttle setup is good.
I’ve had multiple vx3 failures due to saltwater. I like that the vx5 is designed with an o-ring sealed air tight case, rather than potting which eventually leaks on other cheap efoil remotes.
Does the vx3 work with the vx5 receiver, or are they different?
I dropped my setup yesterday… had the receiver taped to the box and they ripped apart. Not sure I’m skilled enough to re-solder the 4 uart wires to the pins on the receiver. Just wondering if I order the vx5, if my vx3 can be my backup?
I’m really looking forward to the gears on the vx5.
It seems that with the newest update (27th of December) they unlocked the IMU function. The remote recognizes tilt to left and right, apparently the IMU was always within the remote but they never unlocked it till now.
I’m still figuring out how to set it up the right way, and what the newest receiver update is about. I’ve contacted flipsky, they seem very helpful. Also gave them some suggestions for the next update which they seemed to like. I’ll let you guys know.
New version of User manual describes IMU function. It appears that you can control throttle somewhat by tilting the remote - not sure i would want to do that
