Foil Video Thread

The NY lake guy makes me want to learn to dock start every time I see him pump out from his dock and catch a boat wake. So many places that would work.

this guy is sooooo articulate and well spoken…hes reviews are not all chopped up with a bunch of clips or sound bites strung together…he is discussing the topic in one long coherent speech like he rehearsed it …planned it out all inadvance and then went “action”…its GREAT!..very informative and educational…as someone who has tried to make a video similar to this i am impressed because to apoear thos smooth is not as easy as it looks

Thanks for sharing, very interesting. I ride the 19mm Axis mast, 75cm, on my surf foil and always thought I should get a 16mm to up my pumping game… not so sure about that anymore after seeing this. Rigidity may help efficiency during pumping but I am surprised that the glide distances (no pumping) are so similar. I would have expected less drag and therefore better glide with the 16mm.

What is the difference in the depth measurement (fore to aft) between the 16mm and 19mm masts?

All things are the same except thickness between the two AXIS masts.

Is this a make?

Crazy foil barrel or whatever you want to call it. I’d say yes he was definitely in the barrel clean and came out but breached/ unhinged at the end.

No, I don’t think it’s a proper make. He fell because he exited in an uncontrolled manner which caused the breach.
I wouldn’t want to wipe in a barrel with a foil…that’s a lot of equipment to hit and hurt you…

that wss awesome but i just cant figure out why he posted that run…theres no wau thats the only one of thise he did that day…absolhe got back behind the ski and went for 100 more immediately after that…he had to have made a bunch more that day…hes the only guy on the wholeworldright now that can do that and got it on video…why post a questionable run?

Takuma holding it and using it for their marketing? The only chance they got to clear the water and try?

Kai Lenny getting mowed down at nazare all on GoPro. Here’s a good comment.

Rafael Moura, a photographer wrote, “I heard from @pedroscooby when he tried to rescue you that you wouldn’t let the Gopro go away and the only thing you actually cared while being smashed by those huge waves was to make sure that there were no water drops on your Gopro lens… Just watching the video I can see you checking it all the time :joy: I understand you, from a photographer perspective. But doing it while taking huge Nazaré on the head? Haha that’s insane.”

“That is true,” wrote Kai.

Nice video!
He’s inches away from cutting his face open on the foil. Makes my hands sweaty just seeing it.

Despite being an advertisement for Go Foil, some great surf foil footage in the intro:

Interesting article on mast thickness. I use 3x 19mm axis and was actually planning on going to 16mm next year. The mast is spraying water quite heavily. I ride the 82cm and was out testing the Veloce M wing, which I fount too instable for my liking.

@Larsb, it’s a pity you never came south this year. Riding around Öresund this Sunday was magic

Foiling NY just reviewed the lift HA 200. I’m excited to see this one.

Hmm, real confusing. There’s stuff he’s finding out that just doesn’t make sense. The 19mm mast being “faster” than the 16mm mast for instance. Shouldn’t the 19mm have more drag and therefore be slower?

Then this review with Lift. It seems the common consensus among the surf foil guys is that the Lift HA wings are the fastest pumping wings out right now. He says he couldn’t generate much speed on them.

Adam Bennets at it again

I want a unifoil 150.

That’s so nice! What’s that about last ride? We’re going full winter, right?

I have a friend of my spouse that lives in Limhamn, it’s a great place!

I’m afraid since i have the worlds slowest wing that you’d run circles around me. I’m trying to find funds for a new…

Nice video! I’ve got to learn pumping. It’s only a slight uphill for us nonsurfers

The beach start at 1:35 is crazy! I wonder how many people on earth can do that…

Much like surfboards, you’ll find different wings suit different styles!
I don’t think the 19mm mast is faster, but the extra rigidity might contribute to extra drive when pumping. So that might make it appear to be faster.
