Hybrid Foils Nano Pod DIY

Yep I can prob put that together pretty quickly. You just want an insert without any cutout as a step file?

Done. File in the linked folder in this thread. Enjoy!

Hi @MRUEM,

Done. See link below. Cheers

I believe Its actually the Foil drive motor which is produced by Saite, but not branded as FoilDrive. Purchased directly from them.

Many thanks! Got one done for the axis 16mm mast too.

Hi,
Do you think it would be possible to print the green part in TPU and still give the same effect?
Taking it one more step I have a Naish mast which is 15mm wide, printing the Axis19mm design and then putting it on on the Naish mast with some dental silicone to get it to fit.
I’m not very good at CAD design, but if I gave myself a good solid kick up the ass, then I think I could modify the Axis design and then just print TPU. It is your design though would that be okay by you?
It’s just fantastic.

Solid kick in the ass achieved. I used a regular old scanner to scan the Naish profile in, traced it and extruded it etc… Need to print and test.

Finished the pod’s inner section for a Naish y25 mast. I have only test-printed it in PLA but it fits nicely and looks balanced.
Here is the link if anyone wants to use it (as long as strongarm and foiling_moose do not object to it).

The link only contains the Naish y25 inner pod you will need the other files supplied above in this thread.
Thanks very much to both of you for the design. Also just a question with the TPU printing what level of infill did you use?

Hi Fanando,

I have approved access to download these files for now. Longer term i have decided to restrict open access to these files and possibly take down altogether as i have started seing them being sold as part of kits. This wasnt what i had intended when i shared the files just for DIY builders like yourself. But if others are starting to charge money for the designs then i might as well consider uploading the files to a platform where they can be downloaded for a small fee. Please note my design was inspired by strongarms concept that was then commercialised by Hybridfoils.

Anyways, here you go. You should be able to access these now. Please do not share these

Hi all,

I have decided not to offer these for direct download anymore from my Google drive as I have seen many instances of these pods being sold as part of kits.

They are still available for download, but I am asking for a very modest (and fair) price for them via turbosquid. Link below:

3D Foil Assist Mast Motor Pod - TurboSquid 2346505

Please note: This design was inspired by the Nano Pod sold by Hybrid Foils, which to my understanding was originally strongarms design.
However, I have modelled these from scratch and put my own spin on how the strap is secured internally with 2 spigots.

Enjoy!

I am totally with you. This is a shame for the whole community.

I think you are being a little disingenuous. You copy a file from strongarm, change it slightly - then complain about people copying it. Then are now selling the design.??? Really. Are you giving some of your $ to strongarm? Oh you don’t have to as the design is not patented.
No sympathy for you at all!! only sympathy for strongarm, whose design it actually is.
What has the world come to???
The only person trying to make money here is you!! ( foiling moose)
ALWAYS ABOUT MONEY/GREED

I think you should probably learn to read properly before having a little keyboard tantrum.

  1. I did not say I was unhappy about people copying/ modifying or using the design. I said if people are selling it - then the design originators should also have the opportunity to do the same.

  2. yes I have in-fact reached out to Mark the original designer and offered him a share of earnings which I am yet to hear back. Don’t assume you know all conversations that are had just because they aren’t public.

  3. I have been quite clearly giving credit to him as the original designer.

  4. I am not forcing anyone to use my version of the design. I am simply offering it for a small amount of money. Take it or leave it.

Redirect your passion elsewhere.

I do agree that you have given credit to the originator of the design, but I must say you are a little hypocritical in your feelings about how things worked out. This forum is about sharing files and ideas. NOT ABOUT MAKING MONEY and Selling your designs ( or changes to other person’s designs). It is a open community and as soon as you see an opportunity for making money you take it.
This is opportunistic and does not follow the spirit of this community of sharing ideas. Who cares if someone else is printing this design and selling it. AT LEAST they are NOT ON HERE trying to sell stuff for a few dollars
DISSAPPOINTED!!!

Go Sell somewhere else

When I am on here, I am trying to help out someone with a project as best I can, not taking someone else’s ideas then selling them.

Good for you. I wish I was as much of a Good Samaritan as you.

I also don’t care how disappointed you are. If you read above you will see that there are other users of this forum that totally understand and support the decision to charge a small amount for it.

And since you require a fair bit of fact checking as well, the original files I shared were in June last year. Almost 8 months of being available from my drive for free. Not exactly “as soon as I realised people can sell their CAD files” is it.

Since you are such an honest and giving member of this community why don’t you produce your own version of this design and offer those files for free and I will gladly support people downloading those.

How did your 3D-printed strap hold up? I finally figured out how to print TPU on a Bowden extruder. No retraction stopped the filament from getting stuck in the feeder wheels. I got a few straps off Aliexpress but they did not suit my needs and I am thinking of making a strap using TPU 95A. Thanks.
