My "Quick and Dirty" Tow Boogie, Foil Assist etc

I’ve been meaning to do this for a couple of years now and finally printed out some metal blades.

How does it work with steering when you start behind the tow? You need to hold it straight or can be desactivated temporarily?

Looks workable in any case, how are ergonomics?

In Hybrid Control 2 mode, I had no trouble starting and controlling the tow boogie with the IMU engaged. But again, years of training with a pistol have honed my subconscious ability to hold objects similar in ergonomics to a gun in a vertical position. The launch is quite smooth, and if you accidentally tilt the remote control to the side, it’s easily corrected. It’s also easy to engage and disengage the IMU while moving.
The grip is comfortable and ergonomic. The lack of a trigger guard is a drawback for me; I once experienced an uncontrolled motor start while jumping off the board. However, there are enough screws under the trigger, so I can hopefully install a homemade trigger guard.
I’d also like to point out the high battery capacity. After two sessions, I still have 80 percent charge left.

Apologies if this has been covered but can’t seem to find details. Thinking the VX5 with twin motor control looks like a good off the shelf solution for simple tow boogie without the complexity of the Bremote. Is it preferable or easier to use the dual Flipsky 75100 vesc or would any matching pair of vesc work fine.

Unfortunately, not everything is perfect. Currently, the remote only works with the FT85BD ESC. Customer support claimed VESC support, but all my configuration requests were ignored. In fact, I believe the claim of VESC support is false.
I have a serious complaint about the FT85BD controller: it overheats after 20 minutes.

Are you water cooling or just heatsink to air? Of course with boogie it’s basically splash cooled anyway. Very disappointing about the VESC VX5 compatibility thanks for experimenting for the group

I use the stock controller. The VESC 75200, which I prefer, usually doesn’t require any additional cooling.

Hi guys, do you know where I can buy a motor which can swivel? I want to build a single motor set up but still want to be able to steer it back to me when I come off the wave. I would prefer a single motor set up with a built in swivel rather than a separate rudder or dual motors with differential steering. Let me know your thoughts. Cheers.

Well, I think I managed to configure the VX5 IMU with two VESC controllers. It works in my room, anyway.
The problem was that Flipsky support initially recommended connecting two motors via a CAN bus. It turned out that each motor needed to be configured separately, and a CAN connection was unnecessary.

I spent an hour and a half on the water with a 40-liter board and a Spitfire 900. Everything worked perfectly, the 75200 controllers did not overheat, I was absolutely delighted.

When you get some time could you please outline how you set up the VESCs to work with the receiver. Don’t mean detailed 75200 programming just basics like uart or ppm etc.

The settings are ridiculously simple: PPM, CAN mode: unused.
