Do you use a balance charger for your 10s3p battery? If so, can I ask which model you use? My current balance charger goes up to 8s and I’m keen to try a 10s in the future.
Thanks.

Cool charger!

Can you post a wiring diagram of how things are connected? The balance wires make sense to me but the red and black combos don’t.

Just zoom in and you will see :grinning:

OK thanks he says sheepishly!!

Still curious about the fixture on the top of the pack though.

Check out the pictures of my battery build in my Build Topic. It is a handle so that I can get the battery out of the box or lipobag more easily.

There is also a spacer in the box to the lid so that the battery does not move around in the box.

Nice battery build! Not a lot of extra space in the case😀

Hi @Etiennebzh , your build is awesome, I’m doing a similar build, two questions :

  • did you test the HV3 80 A ? (are you sure it will overheat with 10 min efoiling for example)
  • how do you fit 12S2P in your box, with the ESC on the small side of the box ? (I’m doing 10S3P and it s really a tight fit, with ESC on the long side of the box)

Thanks,

Hi,

I had the cheap Flydragon 80amp esc but impossible to keep it cold with 8S and poor settings options. I didn’t try with 12S and I didn’t try the X Cross 80amp.

The X cross 160amp fits perfectly in the camdenboss box by it’s width so for the difference of price I recommend the 160 No doubt. Blheli is very good for programming. I lowered the current protection to 50 amp lately and it works like a charm.

Thanks for your quick answer, very clear with the photo.
I also tried hv 80a flycolor (not x cross) , with a 6s setup and a big front wing, I could only efoil for 5 minutes before temperature safety shutdown of esc

With VESC you can choose between motor modes FOC and BLDC.
Which mode does this ESC use?
How smooth does the motor run? If it’s using BLDC I would assume some noise, no?

Didn’t get much info from the manual: http://en.flycolor.net/uploadfile/202207/da2d5f2fea.pdf

It’s a basic and nimble ESC so I’d say classic commutation as BLDC. I don’t know if it’s noisy as it’s my first build and most of the time the propeller is under water.

The trigger is sensitive IMO but I’m used to it now.
I go until 100% during take off but after it’s impossible to keep full ahead, it’s too powerful to handle my balance on the foil.

Tried my 30 liters with 750cm2 foil, still 86kg + winter wetsuit.

Works like a charm, I love 12S2P and 3 blades aluminium propeller from FD.

To have the smooth ramping up, the X Cross ESC has to be set at 0.2% in “max acceleration” item. It’s almost like Foil Drive now

I just tried 0,2% in x Cross, but I find there is too much lag time to have full power when needed, I prefer a more direct control on the motor power, I will try 1% (dowside may be ceramic bearing use ?)

@Etiennebzh hi ! very nice post - I wondering which 170 kv motor did you choose for your 12s2P ? thanks !

I changed my cheap Ali 6384 Freerchobby 170kV to a Saite 6384 130 KV.

@Etiennebzh How does the Saite 6384 130 KV vs 6384 Freerchobby 170kV compare? Pro/cons? I would think that the 130 has less RPMs?
That is a really nice DIY rig you have going there! Like everything from the fuser and mast right down to the simple track wire holder. Great job

How do you make the watertight junction between the 3 cables? I have the same connection and I’m trying to mould silicone pieces but it’s not working.

The Ali 170 kV is about the equivalent of the Saite 130 kV because the stator is shorter on the Ali so you need to go a bit higher on kV to have the good power and max speed. I could not get up on Ali 120 kV and 8S but with 170 kV it was just ok.
