OK thanks he says sheepishly!!
Still curious about the fixture on the top of the pack though.

Check out the pictures of my battery build in my Build Topic. It is a handle so that I can get the battery out of the box or lipobag more easily.
There is also a spacer in the box to the lid so that the battery does not move around in the box.
Nice battery build! Not a lot of extra space in the caseš
Hi @Etiennebzh , your build is awesome, Iām doing a similar build, two questions :
Thanks,
Hi,
I had the cheap Flydragon 80amp esc but impossible to keep it cold with 8S and poor settings options. I didnāt try with 12S and I didnāt try the X Cross 80amp.
The X cross 160amp fits perfectly in the camdenboss box by itās width so for the difference of price I recommend the 160 No doubt. Blheli is very good for programming. I lowered the current protection to 50 amp lately and it works like a charm.
Thanks for your quick answer, very clear with the photo.
I also tried hv 80a flycolor (not x cross) , with a 6s setup and a big front wing, I could only efoil for 5 minutes before temperature safety shutdown of esc
With VESC you can choose between motor modes FOC and BLDC.
Which mode does this ESC use?
How smooth does the motor run? If itās using BLDC I would assume some noise, no?
Didnāt get much info from the manual: http://en.flycolor.net/uploadfile/202207/da2d5f2fea.pdf
Itās a basic and nimble ESC so Iād say classic commutation as BLDC. I donāt know if itās noisy as itās my first build and most of the time the propeller is under water.
The trigger is sensitive IMO but Iām used to it now.
I go until 100% during take off but after itās impossible to keep full ahead, itās too powerful to handle my balance on the foil.
Tried my 30 liters with 750cm2 foil, still 86kg + winter wetsuit.
Works like a charm, I love 12S2P and 3 blades aluminium propeller from FD.
To have the smooth ramping up, the X Cross ESC has to be set at 0.2% in āmax accelerationā item. Itās almost like Foil Drive now
I just tried 0,2% in x Cross, but I find there is too much lag time to have full power when needed, I prefer a more direct control on the motor power, I will try 1% (dowside may be ceramic bearing use ?)
@Etiennebzh hi ! very nice post - I wondering which 170 kv motor did you choose for your 12s2P ? thanks !
I changed my cheap Ali 6384 Freerchobby 170kV to a Saite 6384 130 KV.
@Etiennebzh How does the Saite 6384 130 KV vs 6384 Freerchobby 170kV compare? Pro/cons? I would think that the 130 has less RPMs?
That is a really nice DIY rig you have going there! Like everything from the fuser and mast right down to the simple track wire holder. Great job
How do you make the watertight junction between the 3 cables? I have the same connection and Iām trying to mould silicone pieces but itās not working.
The Ali 170 kV is about the equivalent of the Saite 130 kV because the stator is shorter on the Ali so you need to go a bit higher on kV to have the good power and max speed. I could not get up on Ali 120 kV and 8S but with 170 kV it was just ok.
For the moment I bought a AliExpress connector with 3 holes cable gland on a side and a normal cable gland on the other side, 3 bullets 5 mm isolated inside, itās a bit big but it works. Otherwise @hangloose did beautiful 3d print connectors for mt60 and an other for bigger bullets
Hi guys, about batteries in your 75mm height Camdenboss box (slightly wider than DSE as far as I remember), I found a ācheapā existing setup which is working good coming from long range drone.
2x 6S2P Iflight fullsend 8000 mah ( Samsung 40T) with a serie connector, the packs must be 44mm66mm150mm max to put 2 side by side and you have to remove absolutely all the plastics appendix in the box.
ESC must be set at 60 amp max to keep the batteries in good health. Iām 88kg and my X cross 160 amp is set at 50 amp.
Careful: It doesnāt fit in official Foil Drive Gen 1 DSE box
I installed this AliExpress waterproof connector. I havenāt used it for the moment but considering the size of pins and the fact that we use 3G2.5 wires, I assume it will work fine with 12S. The aim in the future is to remove the secure clip to have a safety device in case of an exceptional over tension in the cable.
Another picture to compare connector size on xt 60 and this connector, itās very close. Foil Drive uses mt60 for motor connection on gen 2.
