Foil Drive Assist, DIY

@nekitesurfing Interested to hear what you think of my runtime (based on your experience).

Im only getting just over 10mins efoiling…

I am running 11s3p
6384 120kv
trinity 3 blade prop
(I also have Microhobby 2 blade folding prop which i will try to redu e current draw)
F one skate 1050 foil
90 litre f one wing board

On 3p 10min seems good. What batteries are you using? If you had 12p then say 40min kinda typical real efoil times especially on such a small wing.

Are you using the Maytech remote? If so, what % throttle are you using to keep up on the foil? On a big foil with a 3 blade motor, I’m at around 45% throttle. On a 12s2p pack made of p45b cells I can get around 20 mins of efoiling although I rarely do this as I’m frequently out in waves and spend a lot of time with the motor out of the water.

I mistakenly bought the cheap 6384 with hall sensor. My idea was to do the potting, do I return the motor, do I potting and cut the sensor wires coming out?

Just remove the sensor, if you remove the bell, you can acces the sensor pcb and remove it.

Have you seen this? I have same motor, considering it as an alternative

and

The Foil drive Assist Plus uses a Flipsky FSESC V6.7 Pro.

Hi all I’ve finally finished my foil assist and it’s a success but not without few issues my setup is all maytech gear 6579 motor with 160amp esc on 50p 12s3p. I’ve build my board around assist it is 5’8”x22”x5” @90litres. I carboned motor mount directly onto Armstrong mast at 25cm below bottom board. Everything run great but I’ve reduced throttle curve down to 80%. The only issue I’ve had is the board under power is pitching up too much in nose forcing me to stand too far forward I’ve now changed pitch angle of motor mount so to drive board forward and maybe down a bit so I’m hoping I can have my feet placement similar to wing foiling in my straps.
My question is has anyone else had this issue ?

Interesting, can you show some pictures?
Also interesting to know what the put into gen2…

Hello all,

For guys who might be interested, a friend of mine succeded to connect his computer to an original Gen 1 Foildrive Vesc, setup :

BLDC
1600W
Current max motor 110 amp
Current max absolut motor 130 amp
Current max batterie 60 amp

Cool idea with the water cooling. Out of interest: Where are you located?

It works well! New Zealand :new_zealand:

I recently started building my own. Currently waiting for cells being available again for the batteries. But will keep this in mind.
Ah, that’s what I thought based on the protein jogurt .
Cheers from Mount Maunganui :raising_hand_man:

Cool! Im actually from Tauranga but living in Foxton Beach now. From cell supply? I believe they are in Tauranga and where I got my P42A cells from.

Yes, cell supply and they are in TGA. Just waiting for the new cells to arrive.
Tiny tiny world. I’ll sing out next time i am in Himatangi beach  Hope the foil is good down there :muscle:

Cheers,

s9tim: Awesome setup you have there! looks super efficient hydrodynamic shapes and super short motor assy. Very cool that you can ride a 900cm2 wing with 5065 and super clean integration.
Can you post more photos of the build including wires from motor into mast?
which waterproof 3 pin motor connector? I cant find MR60W on the internet (only 2 pin XT60W)

Im keen to develop an assist in this direction for prone use… I’m a bit heavier 85kg & enjoy riding small kitefoils/ boards. My current 6579 DIY has plenty of power 6-7.5kw 1.1kg motor + a big 4kg 14s4p battery (14.5kg full setup) means its a long way away from kite/ prone foiling feel.

I am imagining that your fat 19mm alu 2.5kg mast adds A LOT of drag vs your premium Nolimitz 1.2kg 15mm mast you use with the 6362 when ridden close to the water motor submerged.
Do you think swapping these would make the 5065 the favourite?

Have you worked on your oversized cowl and would you consider selling me a custom hub & cowel for 50mm motors pleeeeease?

How much runtime do you get for prone with 12s2p?

9kg all up weight with strong components is definitely possible with 1.2kg nolimitz mast with a slightly lighter/ smaller, same width ~4’5" 3.5kg gong prone board (vs your 4’11 4.8kg) & swappable custom 12 or 13s1p of molicell P50b (60A discharge) would be sick asss!!

I am also aiming for more modularity for setting different motor heights based on conditions /using different length masts or at least quick removal of motor for mast for use with other sports.
So maybe Ill contact Kparts and ask if they can develop a smaller QR pod…
It would be a shame to add any drag whatsoever but it looks like TINY guage wire on that 5065 so would be easy to create a thin cable guide with minimal drag.

Fliteboard ultra L2 uses a 40mm motor (probably quite long ~120mm) at 3kw would love to know more about this…
TFLnorth america do MASSIVELY powerfull 56mm motors upto 20kw (at higher KVs obvs)
hopefully someone develops a more powerful ~5090… maytech (supposedly 3kw…) do one but its 270kv

So they limit the power through the battery, not the motor max.

Is this common here, or in other setups?

When I replaced the electronics in my Assist +, I set motor max at 70 amp and it has much more power.

Battery and other max are 100 amp.

Hi was this in Saint Suliac?

The exact spot where they arrive in the latest josh Ku vidéo  tremazan near portsall north of finistere

I am using the standard MR60 connector with dielectric grease. This has been run weekly submerged in saltwater without any issues. The only step I take is to always apply fresh grease before each use.

I will share any files you need for the setup but I do not currently have the free time to make changes to fit different masts, etc. If the current motor cowling works for you let me know and I will share it with you.

Swapping masts might make the 5065 work a little better but it still has less power then the 6362 motor. Also the 6362 fits the standard foil drive propellers making it easier to run different prop setups. With the 6362 and two blade FD propeller on 12s2p I get 35 minutes of continuous efoil time and about 55 minutes of prone surfing non stop on an 850cm front wing.

The 5065 motor does have much smaller wiring and I use 16 awg down the mast for the phase wiring, 14 awg down the mast for the 6362 motor. The maytech 5090 would probably work well but would need to be rewound to lower the KV down to a reasonable value. Maytech motors are also hit or miss quality wise. I will try to get some good photos over the next few days to share with you.
